It goes without saying that Andrew Nicholson is enduring an incredible run of success. We had everything crossed for him in the Kevin Bacon's office as he entered the final showjumping phase at the Landrover Burghley Horse Trials on Sunday afternoon with not one but two horses in serious contention.
A particularly tricky showjumping course (that failed to see any of the afternoon's top 23 riders goc lear inside the time) lead to both Avebury and Nereo lowering a pole but failed to take them out of the ribbons following superb dressage and cross-country left Andrew finishing in second and third respectively. An amazing performance which secured Andrew the winner of the HSBC FEI Classics series.
Fellow New Zealander, Jock Paget, capitalised on his early, quite amazing, dressage lead to secure the title, setting him up for a chance to win the Rolex Grand Slam at Kentucky next Spring following his win at Badminton earlier this year.
